The number one thing at the top of the list for both Iowa Democrats and Republicans is the economy.

Iowa House Minority Leader Rep. Jennifer Konfrst says they want to cut back on the education savings account program.
That program provides Iowa families with money, so their kids can attend private schools.
“We’re going to make sure that we are putting them first, and we’re going to be pushing hard to ensure that public money goes to public schools,” Rep. Knfrst said. “And fighting back against efforts to continue to fund — in an unsustainable way — private schools with your tax dollars.”
Speaker of the Iowa House, Rep. Pat Grassley says Republicans are focused on tax reform.
They want to shake up Iowa’s property tax system by using multiple pieces of new legislation.

“I think where we’re kind of on the path to is you’ll see the House introduce a few bills, because I think what we actually have to have happen is, we have to have everyone come to the table,” Rep. Grassley said. “In the past, whenever we’ve talked about property taxes, it feels like the local governments and the state are being pitted against one another.”
Republicans will have super-majorities in both the Iowa house and senate.
But Democrats say that they aren’t just going to sit by the wayside.
They said instead they are ready to fight.
